Biographical Details

Dr. Hongxu Lu is currently a DECRA research fellow in School of Chemistry, University of New South Wales (UNSW). He did his undergraduate and master’s studies from 1998 to 2006 in Ocean University of China. He obtained his PhD in Materials Science and Engineering in 2009 from the joint PhD program of University of Tsukuba and National Institute for Materials Science of Japan (NIMS). From 2009 to 2012, he worked as a postdoc researcher at NIMS under the supervision of Prof. Guoping Chen. He held research associate positions (2012 – 2015) in both School of Chemical Engineering and School of Chemistry UNSW mentored by Professor Martina Stenzel.

Investigator Award from Japanese Society for Regenerative Medicine (Japan, 2012).
Young Scientist Award from International Symposium of Materials on Regenerative Medicine (Taiwan, 2010).

Research Interests

Dr. Lu's research focuses on the development of functional nano drug carriers and the cellular uptake and trafficking of nanoparticles in micropatterned 2D cells and 3D tumor spheroids. The research investigates the endocytosis and exocytosis of nanoparticulates influenced by cell geometry and cell niche. He is also interested in the development of 3D scaffolds for tissue engineering and regenerative medicine and investigation of cell-biomaterials interactions.
