Biographical Details

Born 1979. Bachelor of Advanced Science (Honours Class 1 and University Medal), The University of Sydney, 1997-2000. Ph.D. in Chemistry, The University of Sydney, 2001-2004. Postdoctoral researcher, The University of Melbourne, 2005. Postdoctoral researcher, The University of St Andrews (UK), 2005-2008. Postdoctoral researcher, UNSW, 2008. University of Sydney Postdoctoral Research Fellowship, 2009-2011. Appointed Lecturer in Chemistry, UNSW, 2011.

Research Interests

Natural products, peptides and organofluorine chemistry.

Fluorine is a small element that packs a big punch. When fluorine atoms are incorporated into organic molecules, they can have a dramatic impact on the substances' physical and chemical properties. In the Hunter group we are particularly interested in using fluorine atoms to control molecular conformation (a kind of "molecular origami"). We produce novel bioactive molecules that are constrained into optimal 3D shapes, controlled by the precise positioning of fluorine atoms.
