Ways we wowed in 2016

Posted 30 January 2017

UNSW Chemistry staff and students brought in awards, funding and promotions in 2016 that bolstered our position as a stellar school in Science.

Awards came from the Australian Academy of Science, the Royal Australian Chemical Institute, The Royal Society of NSW, and wider – nationally and internationally. Justin Gooding and Alex Donald were responsible for bringing in many of these awards. Our students also amassed awards while presenting their research to the scientific community. We were successful in securing funding from the Australian Research Council (ARC), the National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC), The UNSW-China Torch Initiative, the state government, and industrial partners. Alex Donald, Neeraj Sharma, Pall Thordarson and Martina Stenzel received well-deserved promotions. Chemistry academics organised a highly successful IUPAC Conference on Physical Organic Chemistry, which was associated with visits from world renowned chemists, including Professor George Whitesides from Harvard University and Nobel Laureate Ariel Warshel.
