Seminar: Towards Efficient Syntheses of Complex Aromatics (Dr. Christopher Newton )

Abstract

Complex aromatic compounds, such as those that are highly substituted or associated with an element of stereochemistry (e.g. atropisomerism), can be notoriously difficult to access in meaningful quantities. Throughout this talk I will discuss three separate approaches towards the synthesis of complex aromatics, including a one-step biomimetic synthesis of psiguadial B,[i] an atropo-enantioselective approach to axially chiral dibenzazepinones,[ii] and a new Diels-Alder cascade for the synthesis of para-hydroquinones.[iii]
