(Medicinal Chemistry)

Hi! I’m Catherine – an honours Medicinal Chemistry student. Ever since my science teacher made a tea bag rocket in my year 7 science class – I knew science was awesome, and that it was a tool I wanted to use to make a positive impact on society. So when year 12 came around and we were asked for our university preferences, it made sense to pick Medicinal Chemistry at UNSW - doing a degree that would interest me at a world renown university. I have gained so much from my time here: valuable friendships, skills and experiences. Right now I am working on fluorinated compounds and investigating how their orientation in space would affect how well it will work as an anti-cancer agent. Even though it has been quite challenging, it is so rewarding to be doing actual research. Hopefully someday I’ll play a role in the discovery of a new blockbuster drug!
